Unexpected Ways to Practice Stoicism for a Blissful Life

8 Ways to Practice Stoicism for a Calmer, Happier Life

Stoicism is a philosophical way of life people have practiced since 300.BC. It builds up and strengthens a person’s character and mental well-being.

The stoic person is peaceful, calm, grateful and confident in any situation. They accept their life circumstances and try to make the best of it.

A true stoic won’t judge situations as good or bad. They know it’s only our perception of events that creates that illusion.

A stoic person is a brave, peaceful soul, calm, courageous, grateful and confident in any situation.

A Brief History of Stoicism

The term “Stoic” comes from the “stoa poikile” which means a “painted porch” or “colonnade”. Zeno of Citium founded stoicism in Athens around 300 B.C.  Zeno taught his students at a colonnade.

Stoicism blew-up and became so popular that even Emperors were becoming Stoics!

Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius was a well-known stoic emperor of that time.

If you choose to become more stoic you will gain dignity, strength and confidence. You can become more stoic by following daily exercises. They will strengthen your character and improve your mental well-being.

The Main Virtues of Stoicism

  1. Wisdom: having experience, knowledge, insights and good judgment.
  2. Temperance: moderation in everything.
  3. Justice: fair treatment for all people.
  4. Courage: facing all challenges with integrity.

Practice the following stoic exercises for a happier life.

1. Turn Your Problems into Positivity

Uncomfortable situations will happen in life. You’re not torturing your enemy by obsessing about them every day.

Everything you see around you is what you’re perceiving. Perception is how we interpret the things going on around us.

Sometimes we let our emotions take over. We get angry and lash out at loved ones or we get depressed and don’t want to talk to anyone. We blame the situation or people, but in reality it’s our judgments of those scenarios that make our emotions explode.

Our emotions don’t change because of situations, but by our perceptions of the circumstances.

2. Be Mindful of Your Thoughts and Actions

A stoic must take control of his thoughts before he can control his behaviors. They must train themselves to take their power back from the subconscious instead of going along for the ride.  They learn to become conscious of what they’re thinking and what they are doing every day.

3. Journal

We shouldn’t try to fight against the universe when it serves us something we don’t like. The best solution is to accept the circumstances and move along. It is beneficial to write out how you feel.

Epictetus taught his students that they should write about life every day.

Review your day before you go to sleep and you’ll have amazing, restful sleep and make better choices the next day.

4. Don’t Worry About Things You Have No Control Over.

It’s self-sabotage to worry about things you can’t change, control, or influence.

Inside your realm of control, you’ll find your thoughts and your behaviors. You won’t find the result of your effort.

You can pour your blood, sweat, and tears over a project, but that still doesn’t guarantee it’ll be a winner. Accept that, but keep striving to reach your peak success. Know the outcome is not in your control.

True stoic empowerment begins when we re-direct our focus towards what we can charge.

5. Practice Going Through Hard Times

Stoicism is often described as “the endurance of hardships without emotion or complaints.” It’s a lot easier to go through hard times if you’ve done it before.

Imagine the worst case scenario occurring. What would be your next steps? How would you deal with it?

Practice being uncomfortable.

Put yourself in situations that you fear could happen to you. Pretend you are poor, alone, cold or hungry. The better you get at being uncomfortable, the less of hold situations will have on you. Therefore, making you a stronger person because of it.

This exercise helps us prepare for our future of inevitable setbacks. We learn that mistakes are simply another part of life and nothing to fear.

The sooner you accept that life isn’t always fair, the faster your transformation can take place.

6. Love Everything About Your Life (even the bad parts)

Accept your circumstances, and not fight against everything that happens. Think of a terrible time in your past, and find the hidden benefit or lesson, you got from it.

Learn to not only be okay with the negative event, but grateful for it, love it and be better because of it.

7. Take The View From Above

Let’s say you’re floating around the Earth on the ISS (International Space Station). If you looked out your window, you’d see an amazing site -The Earth. You’d also be looking down at 7.5 billion complex, emotional human lives. It was on this planet that all wars, weddings, divorces, births, deaths (that we know of) have happened.

You are a tiny fragment in this world, and you’re only here for a short time. Take a step back from your own world and remind yourself of your duty to help others.

8. Memento Mori: Think About Your Death

Seneca taught that we should not forget about our inevitable deaths. We should remember that when we go to sleep, there’s a chance that we might never wake up again.

This helps us to think about our mortality, so we don’t waste our days away with mindless activities. Imagining that you have 6 months to live would give you the urgency to reach your potential before your time is up.

Ways to Practice Stoicism in Your Everyday Life

  • Journal every night before bed.
  • Fast for a day to practice misfortune.
  • Don’t let external circumstances or people affect you.
  • Practice moderation. No excess of anything.
  • Refrain from drama and embrace logic.
  • Remember how tiny you are so you can keep perspective.

Check out this YouTube to see what Tim Ferriss thinks about stoicism.

In the end, it’s not what happens to us, but what our reactions are that matter. Stoics are experts at controlling their detrimental emotions.

Stoicism teaches us to prepare for any situation. Life is like a roller-coaster. Some days you’re on top of the world and everything is working out.

Others … not so much.

Remember to always strive to reach your peak success, but know the outcome is out of your control. Don’t waste away your days, life is short. Imagine your days are numbered and you’ve got to carry out your goals before your time is up!

Impressive Benefits of Living in a Tiny House

Tiny houses have captured the hearts of people everywhere! Many folks are escaping the crushing debt of owning a big house by living in a tiny home to save money. Some tiny homes are portable, others are more permanent.

Living in a tiny house will save you money and help you get out of debt.

Massive houses are harmful to the economy (debt) and the environment.

Most of the time people hang out in a small area in their house (usually a chair or couch) in one room. The rest of the house is hardly used at all. If more people lived in tiny homes it would help our economy, environment and get them out of debt!

You can do this! A 70-year-old man built his tiny home to live in for his retirement and a 13-year-old made one for $1,500! Teenagers are building tiny homes to live in when they go to college. Genius!

Tiny houses have all the luxuries of a typical home. You can park by a beautiful lake and have a shower, take a nap, wash clothes, cook or binge on Netflix.

You can also use your tiny house as a tool to help you achieve goals in life like getting out of debt.

Freedom From Debt

Living in a tiny house will save you so much money that you’ll easily get out of debt within a year or two. American mortgage debt had reached it’s highest peak of $13.15 TRILLION dollars! The 2008 housing crisis mortgage debt was $12.68 Trillion.

The cost difference between a typical house and a tiny house is gargantuan. In April 2017, the U.S. Census Bureau said that the average home’s sales price was $368,300.

A tiny home will only set you back $10 to $60 grand and you’re done paying rent or mortgage forever!

Quality Over Quantity

A huge house feels empty. So, people go out and buy clutter to fill the house up (essentially making it feel smaller).

What they don’t realize is that all that junk adds stress to their lives. The clutter slowly takes over in piles, boxes, and bags of crap.

Some people shove the junk into attics and closets, others buy a BIGGER house to store all their stuff!

Living in a tiny home requires you to de-clutter.

Living in a tiny house will save you money and help you get out of debt.

You’ll also be less likely to accumulate clutter in the future because you won’t have room for it. More money for you to spend on awesome experiences and traveling!

Freedom to Travel

People love the freedom of owning a portable, house so they can travel and not have to stay in hotels.

A mini-home means more possibilities for you. You’re only limited by your imagination. Perhaps you want to live in the mountains or the countryside, or by the beach, or underground, or even on the water! Your choice!

Less Impact On The Environment

A small living space will heat up and cool down more efficiently than a big house. Kiss those annoying electric and water bills goodbye! The environment benefits tool!

Tiny homes are usually equipped with solar panels that pay for themselves over time! Some small homes use a windmill or a watermill for free power as well. Free is good!

Design and Build Your Dream Home

You have lots of options with tiny home designing. You can have a full-sized kitchen, a bigger bathroom or a hot tub on your roof balcony!

Designing a small place costs much less than for a full sized house. So, you can afford to design whatever you want and use quality materials.

You can really let your imagination run wild when you design your own tiny house. You could even live in a floating micro-houseboat or a tiny tree house!

Secret passageways and hidden doors are always cool! If you’re a nonconformist/artist type, you could paint 3D optical illusions on the walls or ceilings!

Owning a home on your own land is freedom. Suppose someday the economy tanks, or there’s a water crisis, or hackers shut down the power grid? You wouldnt even notice!

Living in a tiny house will save you money and help you get out of debt.

Tiny houses change lives for the better, help the environment and rescue people from debt.

How to Become Ferociously Motivated in Life

How to Become Ferociously Motivated in Life

Have you ever struggled with getting motivation? Say you have a deadline and you know it’s creeping closer by the minute. You know you should go work on your project but you don’t know how or where to even start.

Soon, fearful thoughts of putting yourself  “out there” and possibly failing. Dwelling on fearful thoughts causes people to give up, shut down and slip back into the comfortable shadows where no one can see them. They wither away and never attempt their life changing ideas.

Hold yourself to a higher standard than that. Don’t allow yourself to waste your life away! You’ve got work to do and you don’t know how much time you have left. It could all end tomorrow? On a lighter note….Here are 7 tips to get yourself motivated:

1. Think Positive Thoughts About the Task

Once you have a task in mind. Start thinking good thoughts about doing the activity. People procrastinate when they’re in a negative mood. Pessimism devours your energy, creativity, and inspiration.
So, encourage yourself while you ‘re working. Research has shown that positivity will increase your productivity too.

Also, imagine how relieved and happy you’ll feel when you finish the project!

2. Plan Your Day

What should you do today to bring you closer to your dreams?
Take the time to
research, plan and write out everything that needs done for you to reach your goal.

Prioritize the list in order from your project’s first task to the last task. Include start times and deadlines!

3. Stop Resisting Progress

Procrastination is self-sabotage. Don’t hesitate anymore.
Every day make your way down your list. Each time you complete a task, it‘ll motivate you more.
Start the first little task of your entire project. That’s it. Don’t worry about the entire project, focus on the aspect you are working on now.

4. Give Yourself a Sense of Urgency

Gaining a sense of urgency can bring out your ability and desire to finish the job.
Choose a task and set a timer (a real one or an app on your phone) for how long you think it’ll take you to complete the activity.

Decide on a punishment if you don’t finish the task before the time is up. Also, choose a prize for if you finish in time.
Challenge your productivity skills. Give yourself a deadline and set a timer! Go!
5. Reward/Bribe Yourself
Reward yourself when you finish an assignment. You’ll slaughter your “To Do List” when you know you’ll get a prize in the end. Celebrate even your small successes.

6. Try the Pomodoro Technique

This productivity technique trains your brain to focus and to work in a more efficient way. In time, it can even improve your general ability to concentrate.
Set a timer for 25 minutes, then work intensely on your task, non-stop. When the timer goes off, take a 15-minute break. Then, repeat as needed.

7. Take a Mini-Meditation Break.

When you’ve been running your brain on full-speed, all day, you’ll eventually crash and burn out. Whenever you need to rest your mind, take a quick meditation break. Sit back, close your eyes and focus on your breathing for one or two minutes. You’ll return to work with revived focus and energy. girl-beachMEDITATING
Everyone lacks drive sometimes. If you have more lazy days than motivated days then you need to take control of your life back. Shock yourself with how much you can accomplish. So, have you been snoozing instead of grinding on your craft? Remember you are the only one who can shape your future. Don’t forget to subscribe below!

Mistakes People Make While Growing up That You Can Avoid

Your 20’s is a time of learning so you will make a mistake here and there. It’s a pivotal decade for discovering who you are and what you want out of life. If you decide to party the whole time, your life could spiral out of control. But, we learn life’s lessons the hard way sometimes.

We all screw up from time to time. But, some bad choices can have a long-term, negative impact on your life and your mind. Learn from other’s mistakes before you have to learn them for yourself.determinedLuckily, you can avoid the following detrimental mistakes!

Mistake #1. Rushing into marriage.

Realize that your taste in partners will change as you mature.

When you’re in your early 20s you’ll fall in love and it will seem like a dream. You think it’ll always be that way so you get married.

Years go by, then you realize between you and your partner,  there isn’t anything in common.

Then, you get divorced. You won’t want to go through that again. But, in time,  you’ll find someone who has their shit together and is ready to settle down.

Marriage will not “complete you” –- you complete you.

Sounds corny, but it’s true. Your marriage can’t be your sole purpose in life. Listen to that little voice (your subconscious) and it’ll tell you what you need to do. Then, go for it (unless your subconscious tells you to hurt anyone)!

Relationships take work!

That giddy, love feeling will fade no matter who you marry. Realize that everything won’t fall into place and stay that way forever. You’ll need to keep up and work on issues in the marriage. Go into your marriage knowing that it will take work to make it last. You’ll need to apologize, compromise and talk about your feelings. If you’re too stubborn to do that then it is going to be a long, lonely, journey for you.

Mistake #2. Getting pregnant immediately after marriage.

Know the responsibility and costs that come with having kids.

Even if you’ve saved up $10,000 to have a baby, that won’t even get you through half the first year of your child’s life. It can cost $21,000 for the first year and a whopping $260,000 to raise a child to 18 years of age. This is only for the bare essentialsno fancy clothes or toys included. pregnant

Try an IUD for birth control till you’re ready to have kids.

20% of children in the developed world live in poverty. This is harmful to children and societies. If you aren’t ready to have kids, try Paragard IUD for birth control.

An IUD (Intrauterine Device) is a small, copper “T” that your doctor will place inside your uterus. Humans contain copper already so it’s harmless. Sperm hates copper. I have a Paragard IUD and I’d recommend it to anyone. IUDs prevent pregnancy for 12 years. It has 0 hormones and no side-effects. IUDs are one of the most effective forms of birth control out there! It will save you a ton of money because you pay for it once and then get it taken out 12 years later.
When you’re ready to get pregnant, your gynecologist can remove the IUD and you will be fertile again immediately. Voilà!

We are not living in biblical times.

Many people are still worshiping ancient books that tell them to multiply like rabbits. Having tons of babies doesn’t make you a better, or more “Godly person”. It’s  irresponsible to have a bunch of babies, regardless of whether you can afford them or not. Our planet can’t afford them.

Humans have taken over the planet, but if we continue reproducing , we could mess it all up. Earth only has a finite amount of resources. Currently, it isn’t able to sustain everyone. Hundreds of Thousands of people die yearly from lack of clean water and food.

If you’re exploding with love to give, adopt a child instead of getting pregnant. Adopting won’t ruin your body, no stretch marks or weight gain! You’d feel great about yourself for saving a child from a horrific life of repeated traumas. You’ll get major karma points for that, I assure you! If you adopt, you’d be fixing the issue rather than making it worse.

Mistake #3. Going to college right after high school.

After high school, you probably don’t have a clue what your ideal job looks like. Chances are, you haven’t had enough job experience to know what you’d enjoy doing. Why lock yourself down to a “lifetime career” right after high school? Only 27% of college grads actually get a job related to their major anyways.

People change careers many times throughout their lifetimes. They slave away at a job they hate because they chose their major many years ago as an immature teenager.

After college comes the debt.

A college degree can enslave you into debt for years, possibly decades. It will hold you back from using that money for something profitable, like investing. 70% of students leave college with $38,000 worth of debt. Don’t start out your life in the negative!

Check out this BBC documentary about our future in the year 2050.

Everyone is different.  We will all make mistakes in life, but that’s how we grow. We would have never learned to walk if we didn’t keep getting back up. Remember, all you have to do to be a good person is not hurt (or be harmful) to other people.

Think about how you want your life to turn out. Make your decisions in accordance with that plan. Disregard what your parents want you to do. It’s your life and you’re the one who has to live it.

What mistakes growing up did you make?

Original Thinkers and The 10 Keys to Unlock Your Creative Genius

10 Features of an Original Thinker and How to Unlock Your Creative Genius

Original thinkers are the best business innovators and leader. Original thinkers are nonconformists that speak out and use their creativity to change the planet. They have brilliant ideas that no one thought of before and will blast through the haters to reach their goal.

People might try to stifle originals because they aren’t brave enough to attract extra attention. If you are hiring others, look out for the following signs of an original thinker because they’re the reason for  innovations that sky-rocket sales. You want them on your team.

The signs of an original thinker:

1. They are extremely curious about everything

Original thinkers are very complex and they want to know as much as possible. They’ll ask or research to find the answers they crave.

2. They procrastinate

Originals will do anything to avoid the task at hand. Procrastination is their weakness. While procrastinating, they mull over thoughts to extract the best ideas.

Original thinkers like to marinate in their thoughts, instead of snatching them up. They thoroughly think about all aspects of the idea before acting on it. This can look like laziness or irresponsibility.

3. They are afraid of failing, but more afraid to not try

On someone’s death bed they tend to think back on their life and the possible successes they didn’t allow themselves to have. There might have been a book they wanted to write, but didn’t. They may have chosen to never move from their hometown and they feel they have lost out on many life experiences.

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation — Herman Melville

4. Original thinkers have a strong drive and are self-motivated with their goals

They love to strive for their goals. Progress is happiness (as with most people).

5. They aren’t afraid to question long-held societal beliefs

Like I said earlier, these people are super curious. They don’t accept spoon-fed information just because everyone else does. They question things and research or experiment to find the truth. This brings me to my next point.

6. They are major nonconformists

Steve Jobs used to walk around with bare feet whether people thought he was crazy for it. He didn’t seem to care that he always wore a turtleneck sweater. Original thinkers don’t have time to worry about if other’s like them or not. Einstein had some crazy, troll hair, but it didn’t concern him because he had an ultimate goal to strive for everyday. Salvador Dali was… well… way out there… and he loved it.

7. They are highly creative

You can’t come up with brilliant, unique ideas or solutions if you don’t have a wealth of creativity. If you are truly creative then you don’t need to copy other’s idea or systems, you come up with them on your own.playing-guitar

8. They are confident about their ideas

Original thinkers are confident in their ideas because they have analyzed it before sharing with others or creating it. They know it is a great idea.

9. They do have bad ideas as well

Original thinkers will have some lame ideas like anyone else. This is because of their sheer volume of ideas has to include some bad ones.

10. They get in trouble

If you find yourself interviewing people, don’t immediately disregard those who were fired in the past. In fact, consider them more intensely. Steve Jobs even got fired. Look for any insubordinate types that were actually great innovators.

Original Thinkers and The 10 Keys to Unlock Your Creative Genius

Business consultant Adam Grant has said that anyone can become an original. He said, “Take Sarah Robb O’Hagan. She held senior roles at both Virgin and Atari and got fired at both. A deadbeat right? Afterward, she got a job at Nike and then became president of Gatorade and Equinox”.

He said that when she spoke at his class, she cussed 6 times in the first 5 minutes. She talked about being fired and how destructive it was to her career. She also told the group about not being afraid to make mistakes.

Grant described her as being someone who doesn’t care what others think or trying to fit in. He said:

“At Gatorade, she championed many ideas that nobody liked. For one, she said it shouldn’t be just a sports drink, but a sports performance company. Everyone hated those ideas . . . until they eventually rescued the brand.”

While its true that some people are naturally original thinkers, everyone can become more original. They just need to think up ideas to make the world a better place. Try the following methods to become an original thinker and boost your chances of success.

How to become an original

What kind of questions do you ask yourself – any self-uncertainty or idea doubt? Turn your questions around by re-framing them as idea doubt, and notice the distinction it makes to your life.

  • Tune in to the messages you tell yourself when you fail

Rather than considering failure to stop doing what you’re doing, use it as a chance to create and grow. Tell yourself that you are not there yet, and learn from your mistakes.

  • Get out of your comfort zone

Create certainty by making a move, particularly when the activity includes risks and disappointment. Get outside your comfort zone.

  • Begin with little goals

Small goals enable you to develop and pick up confidence. In the event that you come up short, consider how you can improve next time and attempt it once more.

Becoming an original thinker is essential to reaching your highest potential as a person. Your beliefs guide you throughout your life. Don’t you think you should believe the truth and not stories people have told you in the past? Research things for yourself. Seek the truth.

badass Harriet Tubman

Astonishing Facts You Need to Know About Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was an American hero, leading abolitionist and an inspiration to people everywhere. Her grit, tenacity, and determination made her a legend. and enabled her to lead 100’s of slaves to freedom.

She is still one of the most famous “conductors” for the Underground Railroad. In 1820, Araminta Ross (later Harriet Tubman) was born into slavery in Maryland.Harriet_Tubman

Life as a slave

Harriet started work as a  slave at age 6. Many days she would be beaten by her master. But, when she was 12, she suffered a life-changing head injury. A slave-owner threw a metal weight at one of his slaves, but it hit Harriet’s head. From that time on, she endured epilepsy, n

arcolepsy and agonizing headaches. Harriet always knew owning slaves was wrong, evil and cruel. Her mind would never be the same again. That might not have been completely negative because that injury turned her into a fearless, tenacious pit-bull of a woman. I’m sure she intimidated many men twice her size.

Harriet had it with the bullshit. She would get as many slaves to freedom as ashe foul.  bring the slaves to freedom. he started having visions of fighting back against the slave owners and of herself leading the slaves to freedom.

In 1844, Harriet married a free, African-American, John Tubman. He was an asshole. Harriet wanted them to move North so she wouldn’t be forced back into slavery. John didn’t care and told her they were staying there. She said that she would go North without his ass. He said he would tell her master and she’d be brought back into slavery.

This did repress her for several years until in 1849 when she said screw it and escaped to Philadelphia. Harriet sure had a way with words because where ever she went she found people to help her. She got herself set up in a safe house, and joined William Still to help free slaves.

William was a brilliant man and an ex-slave. One day he received a shipment. You can imagine his surprise when he opened it up and saw an escaped slave, Henry “Box” Brown. Henry actually had someone nail him into a wooden box and ship him to freedom!

William Still later interviewed slaves and wrote a book called The Underground Railroad.

The Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad was the code name for guiding the slaves to freedom. They used several other code words such as:

  • Stations – stopping places and safe houses.
  • Conductors – those who helped the slaves get to the Northern states or Canada.
  • Passengers – escaped slaves.

Harriet was courageous and intimidating. Each trip she would lead dozens of slaves through the woods in the dead of night. Despite her being a tiny woman, they followed her orders.

Map of Underground Railroad

Map Of US In 1860 underground railroad

In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act passed, which made it illegal to help the slaves in any way. It stated that if anyone finds an escaped slave then they must report this or be fined “$1,000”.

On her 3rd trip to gather more slaves, she returned to get her husband. She was shocked to find he had replaced her with another woman.

So, she didn’t waste any more time on his ass and promptly left him to continue her mission of bringing passengers to the North. She led them to a safe house of an amazing man, Frederick Douglass. He saved up enough money to get them into Canada, where they’d be safe.

Harriet had freed so many people that she soon had a bounty of $40,000 for her capture.

Crossing over Niagara Falls on a Handmade Bridge

Despite a bounty on her head, she made 11 trips into Canada from 1852-1857. Crossing that rickety bridge, high above the roaring waters, would scare even the bravest of men.

They had to cross over Niagara Falls to get the passengers into Canada, on a handmade suspension bridge! That would be terrifying, but living as a slave would be much worse.

On one trip a passenger panicked at the sight of the makeshift bridge and wanted to go back to slavery! She knew he would be tortured until he told the secrets of the Underground Railroad. That shit wasn’t happening on her watch. She took him to the side, pressed the cold barrel of a gun against his head and said: “Dead folks tell no tales”. He probably peed a little, then scampered on over the bridge.

Harriet made at least 19 trips into the South to bring 100’s of slaves to the North and eventually to Canada. She never lost a single passenger.

Harriet’s Service During the Civil War

Harriet lived in Canada until 1861, when she enlisted in the Union (Northern states) army. Her job was to help escaped slaves get to safety and freedom. Many of them were starving, wounded and sick. She nursed them to health and got them to the North.

In 1863, Harriet worked with Colonel James Montgomery to devise the Combahee River Raid. The plan was to have spies infiltrate the plantations and speak with other slaves. They were to tell Harriet of those that wanted freedom.

This raid liberated 500 slaves. Afterwards, most of the former slaves joined the Union army. I can’t think of a more determined Union soldier than an ex-slave!

Harriet married Nelson Davis in 1869. They had a peaceful marriage for 19 years until he passed away.

She then worked on equal rights for women with Susan B. Anthony. She also built her home that she used to shelter the elderly. She gave her home to a church to continue taking care of the elders.

Harriet died in 1913 from pneumonia and was buried with full military honors. What do you think of Harriet Tubman?

Do-You-Have-The-Symptoms-of-a Genius?

Do You Have the Symptoms of Genius?

Are you a genius? Maybe you are!? See if you have the following symptoms of supreme intellect. Perhaps, they describe someone you know?

The Symptoms:

1. They are Night Owls

Psychology Today states that intelligent people are more likely to be nocturnal than people with lower IQ scores.

The rates of sleep achieved in hours per night declines as the average IQ level raises. They come alive once the sun goes down and all the “distractions” go to sleep.

Then, they are free to work undisturbed for hours on end. Are they depressed and lonely all night alone? Hell no! They are exploding with ideas and creations. They need and enjoy alone time to gather their thoughts and to dream up new things.

2. Experimentation with Alcohol and Drugs.

Geniuses are drug connoisseurs. They are natural risk-takers so making drugs illegal only makes them more intriguing. Geniuses are usually nonconformist types, that tend to question society’s rules.

Some buy over-the-counter pills and others go to their doctor for “the good shit”. That stuff will kill you.

Stephen King got high as hell on Xanax, Valium, cocaine, NyQuil, alcohol, and pot while he wrote.

Edgar Allan Poe was a brilliant drunkard.

Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs all enjoyed tripping on acid to further open their minds.

3.  Atheism

Highly intelligent people have let go of the religious stories. They are aware of what is going on around them and they see it doesn’t follow the ancient narration.

They can see that there aren’t angels floating above everyone… ever. They have flown in an airplane and saw that on top of the clouds there isn’t a “heaven”, in fact, there aren’t any deities from any religion, no golden roads, gates or virgins! What a rip off!

Atheists have on average 6 to 7 more IQ points than religious people. Coincidence? Or maybe they know something the masses don’t?

4. Mental Illness.

You don’t have to be insane to be a genius, but it helps.

OCD and ADHD are very common amongst geniuses. I’ve been diagnosed with both disorders.

I don’t wash my hands repeatedly or do the physical rituals. It’s impossible for me to be a neat freak. I can’t keep a clear space on my desk to save my life.

It’s more of an obsessive thought variety of OCD. If something sparks my interest, I can dive into it way deeper than others. Having an insatiable thirst for knowledge certainly helps as well!

You might call these traits “disorders” but they can be beneficial. The key is not to let them get out of control. If you harness these powerful mental abilities, you could change the world.

5. You Enjoy Being Alone.

Time spent alone is good for the soul. In your alone time, you can meditate, read, write, paint, play an instrument… the list goes on.

But it’s not all fun and games…

Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly.”   ― Albert Einstein

Being extremely smart is not the “gift” you might imagine. The life of a genius is typically quite painful. Members of society see someone that’s different and they have to flip out and point the finger at them.

6. Weirdness.

Prodigies are famous for the many quirks that outcast them from their peers.

Tesla was afraid of human hair (maybe that’s why he “dated” a pigeon?). Da Vinci was a huge procrastinator with strong ADHD tendencies. SQUIRREL!

Do You Have the Symptoms of Genius?

Being strange is just part of the territory.

7. Using “bad words”

I believe that there is no such thing as bad words (except for negative words regarding some one’s race or sexual preference). We’ve all been taught that people who cuss are unintelligent and probably lack vocabulary. Au contraire! Scientists have found that the amount of swear words you know is linked to the expression of feelings and thoughts. The number of cuss words one can name in under a minute correlates with high IQ.

If you found that you and geniuses don’t have much in common, be thankful that you aren’t one!

Know that geniuses are not better than you are. They think about things in a unique way. I’m sure you have abilities that geniuses don’t have.

You Can Unleash Your Genius!

Intelligence can be contagious (so can stupidity) so be aware of who you surround yourself with. You can gain some free IQ points for having a real mastermind in your life to show you the way and to give you advice.

Find a supremely smart person to be your role model. Learn how they think, what they do, how they live. Then think and act in different ways than you do normally.

Geniuses help others to gain valuable wisdom and creativity. So, if you find one out in public or even online. Study them.

Negative Thoughts and the Law of Attraction

Negative thoughts mixed with the Law of Attraction can be a harmful cocktail. The Law of Attraction attracts into our lives whatever we think about. Negative thinking (or rumination) can lead to major problems like depression or anxiety. The Law of Attraction will turn those worries into reality. We don’t want that to happen.

This isn’t a “Secret” it has been a well known universal law for centuries. Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, and Beethoven have all proven the validity of this law.

If you force yourself to think positive thoughts about your life and your abilities, you’ll take actions to do your goals.

When you can’t stop thinking negative thoughts, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What am I worrying about exactly?
  2. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
  3. What role did I play in this situation? How can I learn to stop doing that?
  4. Imagine if your worst fear actually happened, write down all the ways you could handle it and still be okay.

you survived

You’ve dealt with past issues moment by moment, but over time you got through it.

It’s important for you to know that thoughts turn into reality. If we obsessively think painful thoughts we form a metaphorical “shit cloudover our lives. Those are never good!

Try the following to regain control over your thoughts.

1. Increase Awareness of Your Thoughts

Notice when you are thinking negative thoughts. Remind yourself that just because you thought it, doesn’t mean it’s the truth. Stop the behavior and distract yourself completely in something else.

Often when we get stuck on loop mode it’s because negative thinking has become a habit. The subconscious loves to make you do the same thing over and over. It is the reason we have habits.

You see the subconscious wants you to think “it happened before, it will happen again” and this is false. It will make you avoid trying new things.

When we allow ourselves to default to negative thinking we in grain these thoughts into our mind.

Do something that makes you feel happy

Go swimming, take a drive, paint something, go to a park, do some Yoga, listen to some upbeat music or call a friend. Doing something that makes you happy will distract you and give you something else to focus on.

The next time you catch yourself obsessing over negative past event or future worries, say: “Stop!”.

If you don’t want to freak-out your co-workers or family members you can just snap a rubber band on your wrist.

Afterwards, get up and go do something enjoyable. The subconscious takes over when we are sitting around not being mentally stimulated.

Know that mistakes are learning opportunities.

We must learn from the past if we want to avoid repeating the situation.

Don’t take everything so seriously! Let yourself laugh!

Laughing releases the body’s feel-good chemicals that give you an overall sense of well-being. It can lower your stress levels and increases immunity and infection-fighting antibodies. This is why people say “Laughter is the best medicine”.

It’s hard to worry while your laughing! So call up that funny friend or watch your favorite comedy.

You can take charge of your life and free yourself from irrational fears and useless worrying. Like any new skill, it takes practice and repetition. Take your time and keep working on it.

7 Inventions By Women That Changed The World

We know about the inventions from famous men such as Nikola Tesla, Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Bell. But how many female inventors can you name? It seems like we rarely hear about these fascinating women. Many of their inventions have changed the world and immensely improve our lives to this day.

Here are just a few of those inventions (in no particular order):

1. Wireless Communication – Hedy Lamarr

During World War II, Hedy Lamarr invented a secret wireless system for controlling torpedoes. She designed wireless communication to defeat the Nazis. It proved to be a significant step in the security of military communications.

In 1997 Lamarr received the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Pioneer Award. She also became the first female to receive a BULBIE™ Gnass Spirit of Achievement Award, which is considered the “Oscars” of inventing.

Hedy Lamarr’s discovery laid the foundation for many things from Wi-Fi to GPS.

2. KEVLAR – Stephanie Kwolek

In 1965, Stephanie Kwolek was one of the first female chemists to work at DuPont. At the time she was trying to find new synthetic fibers for tires. But, instead she had produced an extraordinarily important discovery.

She brought forth a lightweight–yet 5 times stronger than steel— fiber that was almost indestructible. This material resisted wear, bullets, corrosion and flames! It was later known as “Kevlar”.

We use Kevlar today for bulletproof vests, military helmets, fiber-optics, work-gloves, and suspension bridge cables!

Kwolek won the National Medal of Technology for her research on synthetic fibers and was added to the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1994.

As a result of her research efforts she received 17 patents!

3. Beer – Ancient Women

7,000 years ago, ancient societies believed that beer was a gift from a goddess. As a result, women controlled the beer. After a while, the ladiesbrewing skills were so amazing, that no men could brew beer or run a tavern.

4. Car Heater – Margaret A. Wilcox

In 1893, Margaret A. Wilcox was working as a mechanical engineer. She lived in Chicago-so you know she’s had to of seen some hardcore winters.

I’m sure when she drove to work every snowy, winter morning (with no heater) her teeth chattering and her nose red. Eventually, one day she must have had enough and said “Screw this! I have got to get some WARMTH!” Soon after that, she developed a way to direct the engine’s warm airflow to the passengers.

In November 1893, she received the patent for her car heating device. Her idea was the foundation of the modern day car heater, an essential feature in all cars.

5. The Circular Saw – Tabitha Babbitt

Way back in 1910, Tabitha Babbit noticed some lumber workers struggling to cut some wood with a pit saw.

The long saw only cut in one direction and the it had to be operated by 2 men. Using the contraption was a struggle to maneuver. She thought this was ridiculous and a huge waste of energy and time.

She went home and made a notched tin disk and hooked it up to a wheel head that would rotate with a push of a pedal.circular-saw

6. The Mark I Computer and the COBOL Programming Language – Grace Hopper

Long before the PC (personal computer) came along, computers were huge.

The ENIAC (the 1st electrical computer and was created in 1922) was a behemoth, machine that took up 1,800 square feet and weighed almost 50 tons!

In 1944, Dr. Grace Hopper, a computer scientist, and Howard Aiken designed the Mark I. The Mark I was much smaller, five-ton, room-sized machine. Hopper also coded the first “ compiler” or program that translates a written programming language into binary (computer readable code). We still use compilers today to program apps and video games.

She coined the terms “bug” and “debugging” when she had to clear out moths from the Mark I after it was having issues.

Hopper was on the team that developed COBOL, one of the first modern programming languages and is still used today!

In 1969, she won the Computer Science Man of the Year Award. Later in 1973 she became the first woman, and the first American, to become a Distinguished Fellow of the British Computer Society!

7. Invisible Glass – Katharine Blodgett

General Electric took a chance in hiring Katharine Blodgett as their first female scientist. It’s a good thing they did because in 1938 she discovered a microscopic coating that made glass non-reflective and distortion proof.

The glass was a total game changer for cameras, microscopes, eyeglasses, computers – the list goes on.

During World War II, Blodgett contributed research to military needs like gas masks, smoke screens and a way to de-ice airplane wings.

Lastly, these women were true pioneers for other ambitious females. They are amazing role models for professional women everywhere. Because of their inventions, we live more comfortable lives today.

How to Harness the Powerful ‘Flow’ State of Mind

Scientists have started to unravel what happens in the brain during flow when focus increases, you have ULTIMATE productivity, time disappears, and we get into ‘the zone’. By understanding the science, and using these practices we can increase our ability to get into flow consciousness.

Being in the zone is a liberating and an empowering feeling. After you’ve had it, trust me, you’ll want it again! The desire to re-experience this state will motivate you to continue practicing, improving and fine-tuning your passion.

The flow mindset will launch you to the next level, in any area of your life. You’ve got to earn this high-level mindset. Anyone who tries hard enough for it will eventually accomplish it. Don’t be left behind!

People used to believe that only prodigies and geniuses were able to tap into flow.

In fact, we can all tap into this super-human power and unleash our limitless potential!

We have “hack-able” brains! Your brain can transform physically in reaction to our behaviors and thoughts.

You don’t have to become an artist or a musician to experience flow. Be relaxed, yet alert and don’t worry about how you’re performing. Keep going with it! You must be having fun if you want to get into “the zone”. Flow is a state of mind– not a time of the month.

Flow will give you an intense sensation of happiness and freedom while you are having fun working on your craft. Learning how to take control of this mental state can have an astonishing impact on your life.

When you are not in flow:

Things aren’t working and thoughts aren’t flowing.

When You Are In a State of Flow:

  • You‘re 100% focused on your task.
  • Your creativity and productivity levels soar.
  • You will lose track of time and of your environment. You might find that in flow, you don’t even exist!

Brainwaves and Flow State

Scientists have been studying what happens in the brain during this elusive state of mind. They found that during flow, the brain releases massive amounts of norepinephrine, dopamine, anandamide, and serotonin.

These are all performance, mood, and creativity enhancing neurotransmitters. This explains the fantastic rush we get from being in the zone!

It isn’t only the neurochemicals that produce flow states, it’s also the frequency or brainwaves.

You can force your brainwaves to change to the desired state by listening to binaural beats and isochronic tones for Alpha and Theta.

Our brain activates the state of flow between Alpha (daydreaming) and Theta (almost asleep) brainwaves. This state of mind is called the “lucid state”. So, we want a calm (yet alert) mental state.

1. Make an Instrumental Playlist

(No lyrics. They will distract you and keep you away from flow.)

If you want to speed-up the process, you could listen to isochronic and binaural beats. Isochronic tones guide your dominant brainwave activity to a different frequency. This empowers you to alter your mental state.

Our dominant brainwave patterns and our daily life are inseparable. Brainwaves are created by synchronized electrical pulses from neurons communicating with each other.

The 5 brainwaves are (from fastest to slowest) the Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta each speed will give you a different mindset.

Brainwave speed is measured in Hertz (cycles per second). These sounds are set each corresponding brainwave frequency. Listen to these YouTubes to try it out!

2. Choose a challenging activity that you love doing

Choose something that is hard enough to stretch your abilities, but not so difficult that you get discouraged.

Any consistent task that you have fun doing, can put you into a flow state. Some people like to write, play sports, clean, draw or practice whatever it is they want to master, so they get into the zone.

3. Discover your most productive time of the day

There are specific times of the day when you are most efficient. Choose your most productive and creative time of day. Practice working in flow at that time and you could be up to 3x more productive.

4. Create the perfect “flow-inducing” environment.

Clean your space, this is where you’ll practice your skill to enter the flow state. Choose a space where it is less likely to be distracted.

Focus is key and it’s hard to focus when there’s clutter everywhere.

5. Get outside

After a while, if you feel as if your brain has flat-lined, take a break! You aren’t being productive if you’re staring blankly at your laptop.

Physical exercise is essential for a strong mind and body… whether we want to or not. This will allow your brain to rest so it can perform optimally when you get back.

6. Stay hydrated.

You will lose track of time in flow, so you will want to make sure you are drinking enough water.

Dehydration side effects can sneak up on you. You could get headaches, memory problems, “brain fog” or confusion. For these reasons, you should make sure you have some water nearby as you work.

Check out this TEDtalk by Steven Kotler on how to get into the flow.

After you’ve practiced the above steps you’ll be ready to enter flow. Keep practicing until it’s burned into your brain, then you can let flow sweep you away. Have fun!

Why YOU Need More Solitude in Your Life

Spending time alone is essential in learning who you are.  In solitude you can discover who you are, what you believe and what you should do with your life this is psychologically essential to your well-being.

You might have life-changing ideas bubbling in your soul right now. Although, you won’t discover them unless you leave the crowd and find solitude.

Know that you deserve your own awesome reality created by and for you, rather than the path others have laid out for you.

The best way (although not the only way) to experience solitude is while you’re in silence with no distractions.

Every time we are waiting in line, we whip out our phones. Whenever we get in the car, we listen to music. If our apartment or home is quiet we turn on the TV. Technology can spoil our ability to be alone.

No matter where you live or who you live with, you can have solitude. There are even benefits from taking only 5-15 minutes of alone time.

Some people fear being alone to think. Solitude isn’t scary and it doesn’t mean you can’t have friends, it means that now you take the time to be your own friend as well. This is using your spare time in the most effective way possible.

You never know, you might learn something about who you are!

Solitude can help you to take a break and examine your life. From there, you can find the answers.

The answers are within you.

Spend time with yourself to find the solutions to your most tormenting of issues. Distracting yourself from your thoughts will not make them easier to find.

Interacting with people can be like a chess game. We change how we behave in response to how others act. Most of this game is played subconsciously. Sure, we tend to adapt to situations, but it still takes a toll on you.

I’m not saying you should sell all your stuff, move to the woods and live as a hermit. Don’t cut off all of your friends and replace them with cats!

Being around others can be beneficial, in moderation, but constantly being absorbed in society can be soul sucking.

So, if you feel tired and depressed it could be because you’ve been around too many people that day.

What can you GAIN from SOLITUDE?

Solitude will allow you to examine your life and will enable you to realize what your next move should be. Having the ability to step back from the chaos of the world and concentrate, is essential for focus.

In the case of many large groups, the leader is an intensely solitary individual because superior concentration has massive benefits for them and ultimately for the people that they lead. Being alone helps leaders to accomplish their daily goals and be more productive.

Who doesn’t want more creativity? While you‘re alone you can hone-in on your craft and possibly change your world!

Famous musicians, artists, and geniuses spend massive amounts of time in solitude fine-tuning their skills. Over time, they transform themselves into a master of their field.

Solitude Will Help You Through the HARD TIMES

In difficult times, the instinct is often to reach out for support. Solitude has been proven to be therapeutic. Perhaps we should be seeking within to find the answers.

During World War II, psychiatrist Viktor Frankl was captured by Nazis and imprisoned in Auschwitz concentration camp.

He was still able to find peace by escaping into solitude, even while surrounded by death.

He wrote of his experiences and later he published them in his famous book, “Man’s Search for Meaning” where he wrote:

“There were times, of course, when it was possible, and even necessary, to keep away from the crowd. . . . The prisoner craved to be alone with himself and his thoughts. He yearned for privacy and for solitude. After my transportation to a so-called ‘rest-camp’ I had the rare fortune to find solitude for about five minutes at a time. Behind the earthen hut where I worked and in which were crowded about fifty delirious patients, there was a quiet spot in a corner of the double fence of barbed wire surrounding the camp. A tent had been improvised there with a few poles and branches of trees in order to shelter a half-dozen corpses (the daily death rate in the camp).”

Ways to Enjoy Some Solitude Today

  • Wake up a little earlier and sit with some coffee and think about things, before your day starts. I prefer staying up after most people are asleep for this.
  • You could also go for a walk alone and admire nature while listening to the wind blow through the trees.
  • Have a spare moment? Sit in a quiet room and write.

Enjoy the silence, it’s a good thing. Let it free you from the anxieties of the day.

You can experience solitude at any moment. Ideally, in a quiet and distraction-less environment, but deal with what you’ve got. You can train yourself to block out external stimuli.

You can become a better leader, more creative and help you get through rough times in life find your identity in solitary moments while writing down what you believe in (not what others have told you to believe).

What’s important to you? What are your goals? Solitude will enable you to return to society with more confidence to take control of your life and your circumstances.

So… how will you find the time for solitude today?

Well, you’ve made it this far so I have deemed you to be strong enough to be a truth seeker. All the cowards of the world can keep hiding from the truth. Denying themselves of valuable bits of wisdom that would of catapulted them into  success. Therefore, YOU are invited to join my elite group of subscribers for more life-changing wisdom sent to you weekly! Free 4 Life!
