Astonishing Facts You Need to Know About Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was an American hero, leading abolitionist and an inspiration to people everywhere. Her grit, tenacity, and determination made her a legend. and enabled her to lead 100’s of slaves to freedom.

She is still one of the most famous “conductors” for the Underground Railroad. In 1820, Araminta Ross (later Harriet Tubman) was born into slavery in Maryland.Harriet_Tubman

Life as a slave

Harriet started work as a  slave at age 6. Many days she would be beaten by her master. But, when she was 12, she suffered a life-changing head injury. A slave-owner threw a metal weight at one of his slaves, but it hit Harriet’s head. From that time on, she endured epilepsy, n

arcolepsy and agonizing headaches. Harriet always knew owning slaves was wrong, evil and cruel. Her mind would never be the same again. That might not have been completely negative because that injury turned her into a fearless, tenacious pit-bull of a woman. I’m sure she intimidated many men twice her size.

Harriet had it with the bullshit. She would get as many slaves to freedom as ashe foul.  bring the slaves to freedom. he started having visions of fighting back against the slave owners and of herself leading the slaves to freedom.

In 1844, Harriet married a free, African-American, John Tubman. He was an asshole. Harriet wanted them to move North so she wouldn’t be forced back into slavery. John didn’t care and told her they were staying there. She said that she would go North without his ass. He said he would tell her master and she’d be brought back into slavery.

This did repress her for several years until in 1849 when she said screw it and escaped to Philadelphia. Harriet sure had a way with words because where ever she went she found people to help her. She got herself set up in a safe house, and joined William Still to help free slaves.

William was a brilliant man and an ex-slave. One day he received a shipment. You can imagine his surprise when he opened it up and saw an escaped slave, Henry “Box” Brown. Henry actually had someone nail him into a wooden box and ship him to freedom! 


William Still later interviewed slaves and wrote a book called The Underground Railroad.

The Underground Railroad was the code name for guiding the slaves to freedom. They used several other code words such as:

  • Stations – stopping places and safe houses.
  • Conductors – those who helped the slaves get to the Northern states or Canada.
  • Passengers – escaped slaves.

Harriet was courageous and intimidating. Each trip she would lead dozens of slaves through the woods in the dead of night. Despite her being a tiny woman, they followed her orders.

In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act passed, which made it illegal to help the slaves in any way. It stated that if anyone finds an escaped slave then they must report this or be fined “$1,000”.

On her 3rd trip to gather more slaves, she returned to get her husband. She was shocked to find he had replaced her with another woman.

So, she didn’t waste any more time on his ass and promptly left him to continue her mission of bringing passengers to the North. She led them to a safe house of an amazing man, Frederick Douglass. He saved up enough money to get them into Canada, where they’d be safe.


Harriet had freed so many people that she soon had a bounty of $40,000 for her capture.

Despite a bounty on her head, she made 11 trips into Canada from 1852-1857. Crossing that rickety bridge, high above the roaring waters, would scare even the bravest of men.

They had to cross over Niagara Falls to get the passengers into Canada, on a handmade suspension bridge! That would be terrifying, but living as a slave would be much worse.

On one trip a passenger panicked at the sight of the makeshift bridge and wanted to go back to slavery! She knew he would be tortured until he told the secrets of the Underground Railroad. That shit wasn’t happening on her watch. She took him to the side, pressed the cold barrel of a gun against his head and said: “Dead folks tell no tales”. He probably peed a little, then scampered on over the bridge.

Harriet made at least 19 trips into the South to bring 100’s of slaves to the North and eventually to Canada. She never lost a single passenger.

Harriet’s Service During the Civil War

Harriet lived in Canada until 1861, when she enlisted in the Union (Northern states) army. Her job was to help escaped slaves get to safety and freedom. Many of them were starving, wounded and sick. She nursed them to health and got them to the North.


In 1863, Harriet worked with Colonel James Montgomery to devise the Combahee River Raid. The plan was to have spies infiltrate the plantations and speak with other slaves. They were to tell Harriet of those that wanted freedom.

This raid liberated 500 slaves. Afterwards, most of the former slaves joined the Union army. I can’t think of a more determined Union soldier than an ex-slave!

Harriet married Nelson Davis in 1869. They had a peaceful marriage for 19 years until he passed away.

She then worked on equal rights for women with Susan B. Anthony. She also built her home that she used to shelter the elderly. She gave her home to a church to continue taking care of the elders.

Harriet died in 1913 from pneumonia and was buried with full military honors. What do you think of Harriet Tubman?

7 Inventions By Women That Changed The World

We know about the inventions from famous men such as Nikola Tesla, Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Bell. But how many female inventors can you name? It seems like we rarely hear about these fascinating women. Many of their inventions have changed the world and immensely improve our lives to this day.

Here are just a few of those inventions (in no particular order):

1. Wireless Communication – Hedy Lamarr


During World War II, Hedy Lamarr invented a secret wireless system for controlling torpedoes. She designed wireless communication to defeat the Nazis. It proved to be a significant step in the security of military communications.

In 1997 Lamarr received the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Pioneer Award. She also became the first female to receive a BULBIE™ Gnass Spirit of Achievement Award, which is considered the “Oscars” of inventing.

Hedy Lamarr’s discovery laid the foundation for many things from Wi-Fi to GPS.

2. KEVLAR – Stephanie Kwolek


In 1965, Stephanie Kwolek was one of the first female chemists to work at DuPont. At the time she was trying to find new synthetic fibers for tires. But, instead she had produced an extraordinarily important discovery.

She brought forth a lightweight–yet 5 times stronger than steel— fiber that was almost indestructible. This material resisted wear, bullets, corrosion and flames! It was later known as “Kevlar”.

We use Kevlar today for bulletproof vests, military helmets, fiber-optics, work-gloves, and suspension bridge cables!

Kwolek won the National Medal of Technology for her research on synthetic fibers and was added to the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1994.

As a result of her research efforts she received 17 patents!

3. Beer – Ancient Women


7,000 years ago, ancient societies believed that beer was a gift from a goddess. As a result, women controlled the beer. After a while, the ladiesbrewing skills were so amazing, that no men could brew beer or run a tavern.

4. Car Heater – Margaret A. Wilcox

In 1893, Margaret A. Wilcox was working as a mechanical engineer. She lived in Chicago-so you know she’s had to of seen some hardcore winters.


I’m sure when she drove to work every snowy, winter morning (with no heater) her teeth chattering and her nose red. Eventually, one day she must have had enough and said “Screw this! I have got to get some WARMTH!” Soon after that, she developed a way to direct the engine’s warm airflow to the passengers.

In November 1893, she received the patent for her car heating device. Her idea was the foundation of the modern day car heater, an essential feature in all cars.

5. The Circular Saw – Tabitha Babbitt


Way back in 1910, Tabitha Babbit noticed some lumber workers struggling to cut some wood with a pit saw.

The long saw only cut in one direction and the it had to be operated by 2 men. Using the contraption was a struggle to maneuver. She thought this was ridiculous and a huge waste of energy and time.

She went home and made a notched tin disk and hooked it up to a wheel head that would rotate with a push of a pedal.circular-saw

6. The Mark I Computer and the COBOL Programming Language – Grace Hopper


Long before the PC (personal computer) came along, computers were huge.

The ENIAC (the 1st electrical computer and was created in 1922) was a behemoth, machine that took up 1,800 square feet and weighed almost 50 tons!

In 1944, Dr. Grace Hopper, a computer scientist, and Howard Aiken designed the Mark I. The Mark I was much smaller, five-ton, room-sized machine. Hopper also coded the first “ compiler” or program that translates a written programming language into binary (computer readable code). We still use compilers today to program apps and video games.


She coined the terms “bug” and “debugging” when she had to clear out moths from the Mark I after it was having issues.

Hopper was on the team that developed COBOL, one of the first modern programming languages and is still used today!

In 1969, she won the Computer Science Man of the Year Award. Later in 1973 she became the first woman, and the first American, to become a Distinguished Fellow of the British Computer Society!

7. Invisible Glass – Katharine Blodgett

General Electric took a chance in hiring Katharine Blodgett as their first female scientist. It’s a good thing they did because in 1938 she discovered a microscopic coating that made glass non-reflective and distortion proof.

The glass was a total game changer for cameras, microscopes, eyeglasses, computers – the list goes on.

During World War II, Blodgett contributed research to military needs like gas masks, smoke screens and a way to de-ice airplane wings.

Lastly, these women were true pioneers for other ambitious females. They are amazing role models for professional women everywhere. Because of their inventions, we live more comfortable lives today.

The Blunt Truth About Marijuana

Marijuana treats multitudes of diseases and illnesses. In the last year, 55 million Americans used marijuana. How many newscasts have you seen marijuana hurt anyone (besides it being illegal)? Chances are you didn’t notice anything horrible but many people smoke weed every day. It’s not harmful to society or to them. In fact, research proves that pot is safer than Aspirin. So, why are some people afraid to legalize weed?

Why would this wonder drug be illegal?

  1. No one has ever overdosed and died because of marijuana in 10,000 years.
  2. Weed slows glaucoma’s progression and can prevent blindness!
  3. It helps to control epileptic seizures, other epilepsy medications are horrible for you.
  4. It decreases anxiety in some people.
  5. THC slows Alzheimer’s disease progression


The History of Weed

It is shocking that the US outlawed marijuana in 1937 because of racism, yet we are still keeping it . As one legislator said, “All Mexicans are crazy and this stuff [marijuana] is what makes them crazy.” they must not have heard of white crazies, like Bonnie and Clyde or Ed Gein?

Weed has celebrated a 10,000-year flawless history as a therapeutic medicine for many cultures. In fact, it may have been one of our first agricultural crops.

On March 22, 1972, the Schafer Commission was smart enough to realize that marijuana shouldn’t be on the Schedule I list and even doubted its designation as an illicit substance.

Nixon denied their recommendations, and after all these decades, marijuana remains on the Schedule I substance list… along with HEROIN.

Has it taken this long to reassess the issue? Didn’t we realize Nixon shouldn’t be our role model for being a good, wholesome person?

The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937

The Marihuana (yes, they spelled it that way, back then)Tax Act of 1937 outlawed marijuana on a national level.

During marijuana hearings, racist officials said that weed caused “men of color” to become crazy, violent and worse yet, weed made them try to have sex with white women! I’m sure the (white, male) legislatures must have exclaimed “No! We aren’t getting laid as it is!” Sounds more like some insecurity issues, than a marijuana problem.

The government told this ridiculous tale, “A boy who had become addicted to smoking marihuana cigarettes, in a fit of frenzy because, as he stated while still under the marihuana influence, a number of people were trying to cut off his arms and legs, seized an axe and killed his father, mother, two brothers, and a sister, wiping out the entire family except himself.”


Of course, no evidence that any of the government’s statements were true.

Weed doesn’t make you go on murderous rampages. People choose to do crazy things regardless of what drug they are on.

Side-effects of Marijuana vs Legal Drugs

Weed has side-effects like: laughing too much, profound thoughts and enhanced creativity.

Legal pills have side-effects like: cataracts, suicide ideation, nasal fungal infection, anal leakage, coma or death, glaucoma,  and fatal liver tumors. Trust me the list goes on!

The weed connoisseurs I’ve known have been calm, intelligent, polite and good-natured. People who smoke weed are not evil and crazy like the government wants you to believe.

Weed smokers aren’t lazy, idiots they portray on TV either.

Steve Jobs was known for smoking weed (and taking LSD) to enhance creativity and help with relaxation. He did pretty well for himself (Apple computers and iPhones…).

Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft Windows) used marijuana as well and now he would lose money spending the time to pick up a $100 bill. Chances are those 2 weed smokers are responsible for the device you’re reading this article on.

Abe Lincoln, (former US President) enjoyed smoking marijuana and has stated that “Two of my favorite things are sitting on my front porch smoking a pipe of sweet hemp, and playing my Hohner harmonica.”

Marijuana – a Schedule I Drug?

The DEA included pot in the list of schedule I drugs. They say that “Schedule I drugs have a high potential for abuse and the potential to create severe psychological and/or physical dependence.” They stated that these drugs have no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.

Clearly, weed is not dangerous, it can’t kill anyone and it treats so many diseases. Greta Carter an entrepreneur, and founder of a chain of clinics expressed that:

“What we know is that the VA has clearly identified the benefits of marijuana on post-traumatic stress syndrome. We also know that parents who have struggled daily with children suffering from seizures and movement disorders go to extremes to relocate their families to states that will allow them access to the medicine.

We’ve heard from patients with AIDS and Cancer who find benefits from cannabis. There are studies outside of the US that actually show tumors being reduced with cannabis treatment.

I find it unconscionable that we as a country that have over 500 deaths a year to aspirin, and none to cannabis in its entire history would ever try to stand in the way of this plant being readily available to whomever might seek it.”


Don’t you think cancer sufferers, epileptics, glaucoma patients, innocent people stuck in prisons for weed is wrong?

The benefits for the non-smokers.


You could make massive amounts of cash from this crop and help people who are suffering at the same time.

$46 billion, the illegal market constituted 87% of marijuana sales last year. Money that you (and generations after you) could easily benefit from. Unlike other products, the cannabis industry doesn’t need to create demand. It just needs to move demand for an already popular product into legal channels.

If you know anything about business you’ll know about supply and demand. Currently, we have an incredible demand for marijuana but no one is allowed to supply it. This forces people to buy weed from drug dealers on the streets. The profit gets stuffed into the drug cartel’s wallets. Furthermore, this means that our economy won’t benefit from this continuous profit. We lose big time.


Here are 5 qualities any product needs to be successful according to Entrepreneur.com:

1. It is easy to demonstrate.
2. It offers a solution to a problem many people have experienced. Pain and depression are both common issues.

DEPRESSION – Marijuana has been used to treat depression throughout history. In 1621, English clergyman Robert Burton recommended its use in his book The Anatomy of Melancholy. Doctors in India were actively using it to treat their patients’ depression.


PAIN – Zach Walsh, a professor at the University of British Columbia has stated:

If people use cannabis as a replacement for opioid medications, or to get off of opioids or cut back, we could see some pretty dramatic public health benefits. The level of opioid overdoses is so high right now.”

3. It is easy to manufacture.
  • Get marijuana seeds
  • Throw the seeds outside (they call it “weed” for a reason, it will grow)
  • Wait till the plants mature
  • Done
4. It’s a reasonable size.

A small bag can fit in your pocket or purse. You can slip a joint behind your ear.

5. You have a clear business plan.
  1. Get the weed (preferably where it’s legal)
  2. Tell people you have the weed
  3. They buy every last bud you have
  4. Repeat

Booker’s Bill to the Rescue!

August 1, 2017, Bill Booker, the former mayor of Newark, introduced a bill to reverse decades of failed drug policy that has impacted communities.

Bill has stated that “You see these marijuana arrests happening so much in our country, targeting certain communities — poor communities, minority communities — targeting people with an illness”.

This is the single most far-reaching marijuana bill that’s ever been filed in either chamber of Congress,” Tom Angell, chairman of the group Marijuana Majority, stated More than just getting the federal government out of the way so that states can legalize without [DEA] harassment, this new proposal goes even further by actually punishing states that have bad marijuana laws.”

“Polls increasingly show growing majority voter support for legalization,” he said. “So this is something that more senators should be signing onto right away.”

Booker’s Bill Seeks to:

  • Remove weed from the list of Schedule I drugs.
  • Cut federal funding for state law enforcement and prison construction if a state has too many arrests on low-income individuals and/or people of color for marijuana offenses.
  • Provide for a process of expungement and re-sentencing for marijuana offenses at the federal level
  • Create a “Community Reinvestment Fund” of $500 million to invest in communities most impacted by the war on drugs. This is for programs such as job training, reentry, and community centers. Part of the funding will come from the cuts to state law enforcement and prison construction.


“These marijuana arrests are targeting poor and minority communities, [and] targeting our veterans. We see the injustice of it all.”

Finally, if you ever have a chance to vote for legalizing marijuana. Go ahead and vote to legalize it (no one has to know) then enjoy the boost to the economy and maybe get yourself some cash-flow too.

50 KKK Members Met by 1,000 Counter-protesters

A riot broke out in Charlottesville, VA July 1st because of the city council’s decision to remove a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee from Lee Park. They also plan to rename the park, “Emancipation Park”. A court order has ended the statue’s evacuation until a November hearing.

The protest was supposed to start at 3pm, at Lee park. 50 KKK members show up only to be greeted by a mass of 1,000 counter-protesters, ready to throw down for what they believe–that their city is modern and diverse with no room for the KKK’s nonsense.

The KKK was actually late to their own protest because of the angry crowds in the way. By the time 5PM rolls around, policemen were shooting tear gas canisters into the crowd to calm people down and get them to evacuate the premises. By the day’s end, 23 people were arrested and a few went to the hospital.

Klan members held signs filled with ignorance and hate towards blacks and Jewish people. When interviewed, members stated that they were protesting to protect white history and argued that white people alone are told they have no right to have racial pride.
Personally, I am white but I have no desire to shove it in anyone’s face. There isn’t a supreme race. Humans are human. We are all made of the same ingredients so therefore, everyone deserves equal treatment.

I can’t believe that the KKK still exists today, don’t they realize that slavery is over? Or what century it is now? They haven’t made an impact with their white pride protests. Mostly they just make asses of themselves. They are a perfect example of “herd mentality”– the thoughts and behaviors that people adopt from their peers because they are afraid of being rejected by the group.


A message to the KKK

Now it’s time for Fun with Flags (Sheldon Cooper would be so proud), that “confederate flag” you KKK members are waving around is not even the correct flag.

During the Civil War, the South used 3 different Confederate national flags. What the KKK uses is a irrelevant battleground flag. So, they are waving a flag that symbolizes their ignorance.

Israelis were Jewish 2,000 years before Jesus. In fact, Jesus was a Jew!

No cotton sheets will save you from this one…. JESUS WAS NOT WHITE.

Yes it’s true, the Jesus figure you little clansmen worship was actually a poor, dirty, homeless, Jewish, Israeli guy. Over time imagery of “Jesus” morphed into an attractive, white, tall, blond haired, blue eyed man– with glorious, shimmering abs. I guess the church thought that the “pretty Jesus” would draw more people’s attention.

So, what if Jesus wanted to be in your Aryan group?

He wouldn’t have had the option because he wasn’t white AND he was a Jew. The 2 main things you hate.

The KKK members in Charlottesville should have done some homework before showing up to Robert E. Lee park. If they are so proud to be American then they should read the US. constitution.

If you are a member of the KKK or a racist then the rest of this message is for you.

Don’t be so fearful of people that you don’t understand. Take off your “ghost costume”, you aren’t fooling anyone. Put out your torches… it is the year 2017… you probably have a “flashlight” app on your phone. Slavery has been done with since 1865… give it up, you are not bringing that shit back.

The Truth About Gay Marriage

If you still believe in ancient texts like the Bible, Quran or Koran, Talmud … any religious books… you might believe that gay people are sinners and do not deserve to have rights like you do (even though you are a sinner as well).

Bible bullshit

If people are not hurting others, then you do not have the right to take away their rights. Why do religious fanatics think it is their job to tell people how they should or shouldn’t live their lives?

Even if the “sinners” are not affecting other people’s lives negatively? I’m sure you wouldn’t even notice if your neighbor Tom was fooling around with George. Even if they were dating for decades, I promise your life would remain the same.

Why would you go out of your way to point the finger at gay people when you know that you “sin” all the time? Why would you be so interested in what other people do in their bedrooms? These religious nuts are a bunch of perverts!

Do they think that they are so high and mighty that they can change who people love?? I promise you will never be successful with that feat. No matter what kind of laws you set in action… it does not matter.


No Christian epiphany will change who people love. You can only change your own perceived defects. You have no right to even try to change other people when they aren’t hurting anyone. So get over it and get a hobby.

Why waste time and money focusing on how other people have sex? Are gay people obsessed with how YOU have sex? What if your favorite sexual position was illegal? What if you couldn’t get married because of your preference?  The rest of the world should mind their own business and focus on something IMPORTANT that they have the power to change in their own lives.
